X Announce Final Album & Tour

X has had a billboard up on Sunset Blvd. in Los Angeles stating “The End is Near” for a few weeks, and we’ve sadly learned that was dropping hints at their final album and tour. They officially announced it today.

We were in attendance at X’s first stop of their Smoke & Fiction tour at the Troubadour in West Hollywood last night. It was a killer show, intimate, rockin’, all the goods. Then – Dwight Yoakam came out before their encore to present them with a proclamation from the city of West Hollywood. (He had his guitar but didn’t play anything, it was kind of weird) During the speech he said “their final album” and that hadn’t been said out loud yet, and “final tour” which certainly hadn’t been said out loud. The crowd was not happy with the words, but we also know how these things go, and “the end” may just mean “kind of, sort of, maybe, but probably not the end”

I could see it being their final full length album, and national months long tour. But, we’re quite hopeful that leaves room one-off shows, and festival appearances with that lingo. I have also heard that John Doe said it was “the end of club tours” so we keep our fingers crossed for more, while staying grateful for what we have. There are still two more Los Angeles dates on this tour – 7/25 & 7/26 at The Regent.

Whatever it all means, go listen to the first single off the new album – ‘Big Black X’ streaming below. It’s a stellar throwback down memory lane through the eyes of one of the most important punk bands of all time.

And go see them while you can, it’s still a killer show after all these years and what bands are still touring with all original members 47 years later? The answer is X, and only X.
