Shane MacGowan (The Pogues) Passes Away at 65 from Pneumonia

The punk scene (and music scene at large) mourns one of the greatest lyricists of all time. The seemingly invincible front man has passed away due to pneumonia, the singer’s widow, journalist Victoria Mary Clark, reported on 12/2 to the New York Times.

First rising to punk rock fame as a face of a “punk rock vampire” at a Sex Pistols gig, MacGowan quickly achieved his own success with punk bands The Nipple Erectors, and The Nips. Eventually his voice and poetic lyrics would find their home in the Pogues, the greatest celtic punk band of all time (number two doesn’t even come close, just listen to “Dirty Old Town” and “If I Should Fall From Grace With God”)
